FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

2019-01-20

Not much to report; still working on Common LISP: A Gentle Introduction to Symbolic Computation and getting through the initial bullshit of classes. One of my classes is "Technology and Ethics" (renamed from "Ethics in the Computer Age"), and it's exactly what I'm interested in. I'm looking forward to going in depth with some of those topics that I've mostly only wondered about.

Also, it's been a theme over the past year, but I'm feeling increasingly humbled by new knowledge coming at me from all directions.

This is what I read online this week:

In Defense of Not Having a Clue

Oxford Dictionary Word of the Year 2016: post-truth

The Factual Basis of Political Opinions

Backpropagation (Wikipedia)

We are now closer to the Y2038 bug than the Y2K bug

Inside the Lawless New World of Electric-Scooter Hacking

Google’s CEO had to remind Congress that Google doesn’t make iPhones

How Sundar Pichai defended Google before Congress

Level Five Vegan Bunnies

The Bullshit Web
